A Few Minutes Of Design: 52 Activities To Spark Your Creativity
A Few Minutes Of Design is a new card game published this month by Princeton Architectural Press. The colourful card deck contains fifty-two exercises or activities to jump-start your creative juices, free you from creative block, start a new venture, or complete an existing project. These cards where originally designed for students, but will now also benefit practicing designers and anyone looking for creative activities that are playful, fun and often challenging.
The activities contained in this set are estimated to take approximately 15 minutes each to complete. Some require you to draw, sketch or talk; but all the activities require you to take some time to think, analyse and use your imagination in each scenario. The beautiful thing about this set of cards is that there are no wrong answers, just thoughtful results, reasons or explanations.
Each section is colour coded and topics include: Joint endeavour, Odd one out, Extended family, Organising rules, Performing structures, Recall, Your type, Fictional objects, Simplify then multiply, One object 100 ways, Finishing well, Ingenuity pitch, Two-in-one, and Flat to 3D.
Michael Bierut, Partner at the Pentagram New York office explains: "The design process is an object of great fascination these days, yet it remains stubbornly mysterious. Emily Campbell has created a series of deceptively simple-and fun-exercises that dispel the fog. They serve as a perfect introduction for a novice, a remarkably effective refresher for the seasoned practitioner, and a marvelous invitation to anyone with an interest in creativity, invention, and design."
