Currently one of the world's leading industrial nations, South Korea produces an enormous amount of consumer goods. Korea Power is the first comprehensive collection of contemporary Korean product and graphic design.
Korea Power, the current exhibition at the MAK Frankfurt curated by Prof. Dr. Klaus Klemp and Hehn-Chu Ahn shows that many Korean designers now have a new sensibility for their culture’s traditional definition of beauty that they are using to define an original, distinctly Korean elegance. Its official catalog, carrying the same title, is the first comprehensive collection of contemporary Korean product and graphic design, retracing the influences that have served as a foundation of today's design.
The book displays images that the legendary Korean advertising photographer Kim Han-Yong shot in the years of reconstruction following the war, documenting the “Korean identity” that has been formed as the country has become a modern state in the aftermath of the fall of the Josean Dynasty, the Japanese occupation, and the Korean War.
