Museum is a magazine investigating contemporary art, fashion and photojournalism; published by Literal Matter Pty Ltd. Museum’s founders—an editor and art director—saw gaps in the way the disciplines were explored on paper, and the potential for expanded dialogues.
The print edition of Musuem is released biannually, every March and September. Issues don’t work to standardised templates: each page is designed to enhance a reader’s experience of content, be it cultural reportage, critical essays, conversation pieces, interviews or photographic series.
Museum Issue #5 is themed NOSES and is physically our biggest yet, at 212 pages. There are interviews with everyone from olfactory artist David Haines (who created a synthetic scent of the sun last year at the MCA, with his wife and working partner), to smell scientist Sissel Tolaas, scent historians and a leading biographer of Orson Welles, who wore false noses in nearly all of his films. Three separate covers are featured — two shot in Paris and one in London.
